Xiao Fei Yang, Pudu

The most famous place serving Ma La (Numb spicy) steamboat in China is named Xiao Fei Yang. In Malaysia too, there is such a restaurant that also has a same name as Xiao Fei Yang which also serving Ma La steamboat.

But there is no relationship between both. I was little bit disappointed because I was not able to taste the most sought after authentic Xiao Fei Yang from China. The shop is located at Pudu, besides Shaw Parade, within walking distance from Times Square.

The signboard explains specialty of the restaurant's steamboat. I was tad surprise because they use 30 over herbals in chicken soup and 50 over herbals in Ma La soup. I never think that the steps involving of soup cooking are deliberate.

Yin Yang Soup(Herbal Chicken Soup & Ma La Peppercorn Seed Soup) RM22

Price for Yin Yang soup is RM22, Herbal Chicken soup only is RM20 and Ma La soup costs RM25, all using old hen to cook. I was told that the ingredients in soup included Cao Guo, wolfberry and cardamom. She also said that the soup would undergone fermentation process for 2-3 days after cooked for 8 hours.

A lot of dishes available, what we had here were part of it.

Tiger Prawns – RM 15/ set
Pumpkin – RM 5 / set
3. 手工面Handmade Noodle – RM 4/ set
Winter Melon – RM 4/ set
Mushroom – RM 4/ set
Special Fei Yang Noodle – RM 6/ set
7. 菜Vegetable – RM 7/ set
Hong Kong Kai Lan – RM 8/ set
Beanpod – RM 3/ set
Crabstick – RM 6/ set
Special Pork Ball – RM 8/ set
Luncheon Meat – RM 8/ set

Special pork ball is something recommended to try in restaurant. Although it does not superb like in Shi Shen drama which they can use it to play ping pong, it is awesome too! Someone said it was juicy to bite!

Special Fei Yang noodle became half transparent after dipped in the soup. By the way, it was still opaque in the beginning. It is made of starch.

Other dishes:

Sliced Mutton – RM 15 / set

US Beef Tendon slices – RM 18 / set

Pork belly – RM 12 / set

China folks would dip the dishes with condiments and sauces when eating steamboat. Here, they also prepare some for us:

Fermented Bean Curd Sauce
Garlic Oil
Chilli Oil
Sesame Sauce
Fried Rice

Fried rice was not in the menu yet. I personally think that the fried rice was tasteless.

Fried Homemade Noodle

The homemade noodle was better than fried rice. Sweet sour sauce combine with the springy homemade noodle, it was tasty!

Sugar coated hot-cold sweet potato and yam

Lastly, they serve us the wonderful dessert- Sugar coated hot-cold sweet potato and yam! The crew said this dessert can not be found in other places in Malaysia. After sweet potato and yam cooked with sugar, it became like silk thread. Then, they taught us to dip it into cold water, and took it out after few minutes, the mouth feeling is hot and cold at the same time, which made me to have another one! Frankly speaking, you all must try this when you dine in here!
