Winner Brought Home RM20k @ IJM LAND DESIGNER AWARDS 2019

After purchasing a house, what comes next is the interior design. Without it, the house is just an empty shell. Interior design is a very subjective element which is done according to personal preference. I watched a lot this kind of interior design shows on Youtube and TV such as Living Big in A Tiny House, 梦想改造家 (China) as well as Home Decor Survivor (Singapore) that screened on TV long time ago.

For 梦想改造家(available on Youtube), I really surprised of the outcomes the Chinese interior designers (ID) did to make the home more lively, modern, functional and spacious for a big family living at a tiny house in the city when the land and living cost is expensive. Malaysia yet has such a show to feature the Malaysian designers' talent but then iLDA stands for IJM Land Designer Awards is such a great platform for Malaysia ID's work to be recognized.

IJM LAND DESIGNER AWARDS 2019

After five months of intense competition across Malaysia, IJM Land Designer Awards 2019 (iLDA 2019) came to a close after a fierce battle amongst two shortlisted contestants who vied for the title of the Best Young Interior Designer of iLDA 2019 at Seremban 2 Sales Gallery.

Having received 116 preliminary entriesLee Jun Yan and Boon Zi Yang were shortlisted by a panel of judges to actualise their concept, ideas and plans for the competition themed, Modern Family & Spaces, at Kalista 2 Executive Apartments, Seremban 2. With only a five-week duration provided to execute their concepts in an empty unit from the groundwork up to the detailing of the apartment, the two contestants went head-to-head to ensure that their concepts were to a tee at every corner of the apartment.

In bringing the two young interior designers’ concepts to life throughout their journey were Kubiq & Signature Kitchen, TA Studio & Da Vinci Malaysia, LM Home, Inovar Floor Malaysia, and Seng Hup Lighting & Decor, who contributed greatly to the completion of the two units at Kalista 2 Executive Apartments and the success of IJM Land Designer Awards 2019.

“The iLDA 2019 is to ensure a healthy competitive environment among our local interior designers, where they are able to showcase their creative work and challenge the status quo of design,” said Dato’ Hoo Kim See, Senior General Manager, Central Region of IJM Land Berhad. “It is important that young interior designers evolve along with the ever-changing demands of this industry and we want to provide a platform that enables them to execute their work and give it the recognition it deserves,” he further added.

“I’m sure the final decision was a tough one to make for the panel judges as both units were equally great at encapsulating our competition’s theme. As we wanted this competition to be fair and just, the results is a compiled score from our esteemed panel of judges, while the public and the media voting was a separate initiative to gain further recognition for our contestants,” said Dato’ Hoo.

“It is a feat for the contestants as they had captured the competition’s theme very well and executed their concepts and ideas beautifully with such tight deadlines in place,” commented Fandarie Su, Chief Judge of iLDA 2019, on the completed units at Kalista 2 Executive Apartments.

After an arduous journey, Lee Jun Yan from Reno Bros was crowned the Best Young Interior Designer of the iLDA 2019. Lee seemed surprised when he was announced as the winner of iLDA 2019 as the win was not an expected one. He also bagged the Public’s Choice Award and Media’s Choice Award during the event.

Congratulate to Lee Jun Yan. The fun part of this event is the involvement of us as bloggers to have a chance to visit their actual design concept in two of the units at Kalista 2 and vote for our favourite between the two. Here I will show you guys their masterpieces.

The moment I stepped into BZY's unit, the overall feeling was very grand with the blue-green and gold complexion. The unit was dim. With the Santorini wallpaper, it gave a holiday feeling like staying at a vacation house. Few things I did not like here include the dim light at the bedroom 3 (reading room). Second, there was not any vanity table at the master bedroom which I think is a must for me. Nevertheless, I do admire his great effort spent on the unique ceiling cutting from the living room to each of the room. That's a complicated work.
