Tree Top Walk in Kedah is one of the interesting places to visit especially for nature lovers and families with kids for an educational experience. The ride from Kulim town to Tree Top Walk in Sg Sedim took us about 36 mins.

The Tree Top Walk is 925 meters canopy walk. It was built within the lowland of the dipterocarp compartment of Gunung Iras Forest Reserve. Construction of the work started in Jan 2004 and was completed in March 2005. This project was initiated by the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia and implemented by Unit Perancang Ekonomi Kedah, Jabatan Perhutanan Kedah and Majlis Tindakan Pelancongan Kedah.

The Tree Top Walk is like a suspension bridge without any support in the middle. Thus, when there is a strong wind, one will feel the platform a bit shaking when standing on it.

There are signboards along the walk at specific points with descriptions of the trees that one could observe from there.

An uncommon tree such as Terap Nasi is found in this place. This species belongs to Terap, Sukun, Nangka, Keledang and Cempedak. The fruit is small and tasteless and rarely consumed.

One has to be careful not to drop the smartphone on the platform as your phone might be able to slip through the hole into the forest ground that is no way to go down to find it.

Cengal is also found in Malaysia rainforest. The tree barks are dark and fissured. The timber from this heavy hardwood is strong and durable. It is used for bridges and boats. truck body wood, heavy-duty flooring, and marine construction. A high-grade resin (damar) can be produced from Cengal.

Well, Kulim is not only a place name in Kedah, but it is also a local name for a tree. Kulim is easily recognized by its distinctive garlic smell. The smell can be detected as far as 20 meters from the tree. There is only 1 species in its own family and distributed in Malaysia and Sumatra. This species is classified as Medium Hard Timber and suitable to use as material for medium structure. The fruit is said to have medicinal value for curing several illnesses in a traditional way.
