'Jom Jelajah Koperasi' Day 2 @ Penang

Schedule of the Day 2(第二天路程): Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad;Koperasi Pasar Aneka Taman Selat Butterworth Berhad; Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad

Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

The next morning, we headed to the assembly point to gather after taking breakfast at our own foster parent's home.

Beehive @ Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

After that, we paid a visit to a bee farm at Kampung Mengkuang Titi.

Beehive Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

Bee stings...that's what in my mind when I was there but then this seem to be wrong sometimes

Beehive Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

The crew opened the plastic cover and we saw the tiny bees nestling in the honeycomb.

Beehive Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

Take a close look, there are juicy brownish stuff and that is honey

Beehive Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

That's the entrance and exit point for the bees

Beehive Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

I was asked to try out the honey directly from the beehive. I was hesitate to do it at first as I was quite worry if the bees would stung at me. Until I saw an instagram video of my friend who did it previously, my fear was lessened, and I decided to give it a try.

Beehive Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

Look at the bee at my hand...but it did not sting me ^^ It just give me a kiss xo

Beehive Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

wow yummy...I sucked twice! This is the most natural honey I ever tasted directly from beehive ^^

Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

I still want...can take home? LOL

Cottage Industry @ Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

Next, we went to the opposite site to visit the cottage industry.

Cottage Industry Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

By the time we arriving, they were making 'cold powder'. This was my first time knowing such kind of thing even though I stayed here for over 20 years. The white liquid is rice that soaked in water for a month, the water changed in between every 3 days.

Cottage Industry Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

By folding the leaf with small hole at the tip, the lady let the liquid came out drop by drop at the red cloth.

Cottage Industry Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

After a while, the liquid is crystallized. They collected it.

Cottage Industry Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

And the villager sells it. It is RM2 per container. I asked what is the usage of that. One of my Malay friend told me that is applying on face for cooling purpose. Such a nature and traditional way!

Cottage Industry Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

Here they have Dodol ( sweet toffee-like confection made with coconut milk, jaggery, and rice flour) , all are home made. They are selling in packs.

Muruku @ Cottage Industry Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

Before we left, we got a chance to see the Muruku (savory crunchy traditional snack made with flour, dried chilli, shrimp, onion, eggs and salt) making.

Congkak @ Koperasi GDW Mengkuang Pulau Pinang Berhad

Those who interested can have fun with playing Congkak - (mancala game of Malay origin). Only 2 players allowed for this game. It needs mental calculation to win. Since we short of time that day, thus we had to skip this. It has been many years I did not play. LOL

Koperasi Pasar Aneka Taman Selat Butterworth Berhad

Our next stop is Pasar Aneka Taman Selat Butterworth. It is being called 'Rope Walk' as well. There are 230 stalls at the site with Malay comprising 89% of the total.

Dancing @ Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad
One of the highlight for that night was that the international guests were being invited to the stage to dance together with the Malay dancers. It was very funny to see their move. LOL

Macho Cho from Korea was being interviewed about his stay experience. But somehow he was quite smart to sneak away without being noticed when others dancing on the stage.

Siput Unam...something I never taste before. It is quite special as we need to use the stick to pull the meat out of the shell. It is salty just like the sea water. LOL I'm still not adapted to the taste.

Siput Unam...
