Schedule of the Day 3(第三天路程): Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad

Okay, here comes my third-day update of the recent trip to the outskirt of Penang. Sorry to some of you who waited so long and some even kept asking me when is the next post to be published. I very appreciate for all your support. And now enjoy the article ^^

Pillow fighting @ Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad

The next morning, we were asked to gather at the river. I got the agenda for the program but I absolutely did not know that 'pukul bantal' (pillow fighting) is playing at the pool. Moreover, I have been told that this is one of the Malay traditional game that commonly found in Malay village. Oh my gosh, this is my first time heard about it even though I stay here for more than 20 years!

Crazy Traditional Games @ Homestay Sungai Chenaam, Penang

At the mid of the year when the weather is hot, the Malay kids at the village like to play water to cool the body. Eventually, this game is created. The very first rule of the game is can't hit the opponent's head if not point will be deducted. Usually, the adults will be the referee while the players are all kids. It can be played by both adults and kids. During the game, only 2 players are allowed sitting at the bamboo bridge facing each other.

But since this program is organized purposely for us, therefore the players are all adults (players are all participants for this program). The crucial tip to win is to hit the opponent's waist to make him/her imbalance. But one can't overact by giving too powerful strike until losing own balance and drop into the water.

I know I'm bad, but I can't stop laughing at the last picture when my friend dropped into the water and another is sneering at her. And all these are captured in time by me :P

Duck Catching Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad

Coming next is duck catching...oh no all this is beyond my imagination. I thought we would go to a farm to catch duck but hey absolutely not like what I thought! Just after finish the pillow fighting, one of the villager took out all the ducks from the cage and tightly held at his hand before releasing into the pool.

As many of us not willing to go down the pool with various kind of excuses (hahaha young man you don't have menstruation right? :P), so the game opened to the kids at the village to join in the fun. (I paid respect to those heroes and heroins going down to the water) I can tell you that all these village kids are very brave and definitely a good swimmer! After the whistle blew, all of the participants swimming as fast as possible to chase the ducks released. Being an audience, it is really fun watching the game ^^

According to one of my friends, the duck catching activity is also another Malay traditional game that is still practiced in Malay village nowadays. Usually the game is played after harvesting season. The farmer will make his field like a pool so that the ground is wet, loose and easy to plant. They will let the ducks swimming around the pool, mating with each other and laying eggs. The lost ducks would be caught and eventually that is how the game developed.

One of the kids who manged to catch the duck. It looks like an easy job for them! Thumbs up for him!

paddy field @ Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad
Okay, here the event photographer...please don't do like him as the water he is bathing now is poisonous according to the villagers. The water looks clear but actually that is the drain where all the insecticide flows in.

Crazy Traditional Games @ Homestay Sungai Chenaam, Penang

It's indeed a nice scene and tempting to bath here but no way to take such a risk. LOL immediately he rushed to the shoplot using the pipe water to wash off the insecticide :P

Crazy Traditional Games @ Homestay Sungai Chenaam, Penang

When heading back, I saw a giant grasshopper at the banana leaf! Kampung Chenaam is a very good place to hang around if you embrace nature. (but only one annoying thing during the stay is the mosquitoes)

I very appreciate for Mak Long who hosted our stay. It is indeed a very beautiful and spacious house! I would not forget the wonderful experience here!

Last before we left the Kampung Chenaam, everyone of us was given some souvenirs by the local cooperative. This is our group photo, who stay a night at Mak Long house. The first left is Gael from thepinaysolobackpacker.com, one of the famous travel bloggers from Philippine. Visit her blog if you trying to find some related information regarding travel ^^

左边第一个是来自thepinaysolobackpacker.com 的Gael, 菲律宾著名的博客。
