Trail Guide to Ketumbar Hill Hiking

Ketumbar Hill is famed among all KL Selangor hikers for the sight of the wild boars along the trail. At first, we went to the wrong entrance as Waze led us to Ketumbar Height Condominium instead of the hill entrance. Thanks to the security guard at KHC who told us that the entrance is at the back of the condo.

Ketumbar Hill is 300m above sea level, roughly 100 stories with each floor 3m high. From my experience, I would consider this as one of the easier hills to hike especially for beginners.

There is a google map update for the Earth view of Ketumbar Hill. I think the hill's geographical look is useful, which you can define from the fine lines if the trail is steeper compared with others.

That's what we learnt during Geography class in Form 2/3. It's called a topographic map which makes use of contour lines to depict elevations above sea level. Those CLOSE contour lines mean STEEP terrain and OPEN contour lines mean FLAT terrain.

We reached a bit late and thus we were lucky to have an empty parking slot since some of the hikers already left. The parking is very limited as the trail is next to several blocks of the low-cost apartments without a proper car parking slot in the compound. Thus, residents would also park their cars outside the building and occupied quite a number of parking slots at the roadside.

You can park a distance away which is free or you could choose to park at the paid parking which is closer to the entrance.

I could tell this place is well-maintained. At least I don't see any rubbish along the trail. There is a Chinese's God Natuk Gong placed at the entrance.

I chose to hike for Road 9 trail which I saw a lot of people going this way too. As I'm the first-timer here, it is best to follow the crowd to avoid getting lost.

I saw an uncle can talk on the phone with his friends while hiking up the steep terrain without panting. I was totally in awe.

Maybe I ate too much which I vomited when I stopped for a rest.

Near to the hilltop, there is a bench donated by the hikers. I think the bench is there because it is one of the good spots for KL view.

Someone told us that's the hilltop when we came. It was a T-junction. Luckily we asked a passerby which way led to the jungle gym, if not we might just go all the way descending the hill without knowing it.

From 10.15 - 11.20am, it's about 1.05 hr to the hilltop (in a slow pace with stops for photo-taking). We did not spot any wild boars unfortunately during our visit but we spotted a frog jumping on the ground.

I could say the frog was well camouflaged in those dried leaves and tree branches.

There were 4-5 dogs around at the hilltop. To my surprise, all were sleeping at that time.

We went home with another trail which I could say it's much easier than the one we came up with.

There were improper staircases built up along the trail (just for a short distance).

This trail is less steep and wider which is good when you want to give way to others behind you to pass through you.

To our surprise, there is another jungle gym with seats and swings.

We spent 40 min to come down. I guess we could do it faster next time as my toes were painful during descending.

Passing through the Natuk Gong, turning right, there is a public toilet that one could use for free. The water from the pump is actually water from the hill. Now it's Movement Control Order 3.0 which we could not go for hiking and perhaps when this is over, we could come again for the second hike. Pray for our luck to be able to see the wild boars there next time.

  4. i don't actually think you'd want to come into any close contact with wild boars—they're dangerous(!!) thanks so much for sharing this. sorry to read that you got sick, though.

    1. I nearly forgotten that I vomit halfway to the top. My hubby was asking me if I was ok and should we descending. I think if I gave up that time, this blogpost would not exist 😂 Well, for the wild boars, since they are used to the visitors and residents (who feed them), they would not attack human as so far no news reported for random attack by wild boars in Ketumbar hill. I think that as long as we are not trying to harm them or they feel being threatened, we are definitely safe.
