Dashi Dining Saya & Delica Saya @ Lot 10

Ever been to Isetan KL in Lot 10? I have been to Lot 10 Hutong but this was my first time visiting Isetan KL LG market. The place is situated next to Lot 10 Hutong. The Japanese store at lower ground floor provides a unique dining style highlighting authentic Japanese flavors and reflecting the elegance of the changing seasons. Each zone offers its own curated eat-in dining spaces with plenty to try.

Dashi Dining Saya and Delica Saya is one of a kind. Both are operated by the same company under Japanese. One thing I am pretty sure about Japanese is high quality in whatever they do. Dashi Dining Saya got its name perhaps from the word "Dashi". What is Dashi actually? (Please do not mistaken with Daiso xoxo)

Most of the ingredients here are made of Dashi. Dashi is a Japanese stock used in many Japanese dishes. Dashi is made from kombu (dried kelp), bonito flakes (dried and smoked skipjack tuna that is shaved into thin flakes), anchovies/ sardine (iriko/ niboshi) or any combination above. The ingredients to make stock is generally rich in glutamate which made up to the intense flavour of the stock. Dashi has umami flavour from all these ingredients added which eventually diners does not need to season the food much. Dashi is used in many different Japanese dishes such as miso soup, noodle soup, donburi, chawanmushi, simmered dishes like Nikujaga and many more. In contrast to Chinese soup recipe, Dashi is made instantly from briefly soaking or heating the ingredients such as dried bonito and kelp, uniquely Japanese way.

Featured above is Delica Saya which is just next to Dashi Dining Saya. There is no seating available. The operating concept is much like a fast food outlet with only take away service. Opposing to what in my perception which Japanese food is only sushi, sashimi, teppanyaki, macha, tempura, udon, cold soba noodles, some of the things they have in this outlet are pretty rare (can't find it in anywhere) and I believe you will be impressed with their food choices.

They sell onigiri (we used to call when we saw it in Aeon/Jusco) next to the cashier counter. There are 3 different flavours of Japanese rice which include kelp, dried bonito flakes and salmon rice ball.

For those who is in rush, there are ready packed bento set to purchase. Rate starts from RM15 to RM18. The set is changing everyday with different ingredients inside, sometimes with salmon, or other time with chicken.

Not only Chinese has Yong Tau Fu but Japanese also comes up with their own version of Yong Tau Fu. But the only difference is they don't serve any taufu (bean curd) in Yong Tau Fu. Pretty funny right? Well, in Japan they call it Oden.

Oden is Japanese one pot winter dish consisting of several ingredients such as boiled eggs, white radish, konjac, and processed fishcakes stewed in a light, soy-flavored dashi broth.

Delica Saya's Oden includes following ingredients:

white radish
egg
fish sausage
fish paste
konjac
(elephant yam)

The fish sausage in Oden is chewy in mouth.

Kimpira, Burdock and carrot
Kimpira means a cooking style that you stir fry and simmer with sugar and soy sauce. The dish gives a sweet salty taste. Dashi stock is added as seasoning to enhance the flavour. I was told the dish s high in iron and potassium.

Sliced chicken with sesame seasoning

Hijiki, Japanese seaweed
Hijiki is a kind of Japanese seaweed. This healthy dish is comprised of minced chicken, carrot, fried bean curd and seaweed which all together boiled with soy sauce and dashi stock.

Japanese Traditional Stew Chikuzenni
This is among basic side dish in Japan. Boiled chicken, carrot, burdock, lotus root, shiitake, taro and konjac are cooked with soy sauce and Dashi stock.

Tomato with apple sauce
This is surprisingly good. You can't really taste the sourness of tomato. Instead our palates have only sweet taste when we put a spoonful in mouth. It is much like a healthy dessert for me :D

Hokkaido Croquette (beef) RM7

Fried Chicken with sweet vinegar and tartar sauce RM5
Deep fried chicken twined with hot vinegar sweetened with mirin and sugar bean jam which later topped with tartar sauce. This is highly recommended. The whole chicken tantalizes one's taste bud with its juiciness that the chef marinated it to perfection.

Japanese Egg Omelette RM7
The egg is soft and juicy as it is cooked with Dashi stock.

Tofu and Kinoko mushroom with Daishi sauce RM8
Tofu and Kinoko mushroom thickened with starchy sauce and Dashi sauce.

Whereas for Delica Saya, the seats surround the open kitchen with high chairs and bar counter table. You can watch the crew prepare your food in front of you while you waiting for your food.

Rice with Hot Dashi soup - Marinated Tuna Sashimi Set RM29
The way we have this is quite like Hakka Lei Cha style. You know I am really tempting for Haka Lei Cha for a very long time? We add in the Wasabi, onion, and sesame into the rice and pour in the Dashi soup in the end. The tuna is later cooked by the hot soup added. Contrary to Lei Cha, Dashi soup is clear and not as thick as the green tea.

Fried Chicken with Tartar sauce RM27
As both outlets are under same management, the side dishes we have in Delica Saya are also available in Dashi Dining Saya.

Rice with hot Dashi Soup with grilled salmon flakes RM27

For all these sets, the Dashi soup is free to refill. The same applies to the green tea, served cold or hot.
Curry Saya style with healthy vegetables RM24
Japanese curry rice is not as spicy as local or Thai or Indonesia style. The spiciness of thick curry paste is mild.

Take set RM38

Hokkaido Croquette

Steam egg with Dashi soup "Saya style" RM7
