A few weeks ago, our house was undergoing some renovation. The master bedroom and living room tiles were popped off the floor. It could pose us in danger if we don't fix it and more tiles would be popped off eventually. I think this is quite a common issue for those who stay in landed houses. So, we decided to find someone to fix it. The tile installers gave us a quote of RM2k (master bedroom only) but only include the cement. So end up, we have to buy our own tiles for them. Both my hubby and his father were clueless about where to buy the tiles until I gave a suggestion why not this time find a tile manufacturer instead of those distributors who could not give much expert advice.  After doing some research on Google, we decided to go to Niro Granite to have a look.

There were positive and negative Google reviews about this place/ brand. But then, we still decided to go to have a look since it is not too far from us. Niro Granite is located in Shah Alam. Our initial plan is to have a look to see if there is any new and high technology functioned tiles in Niro since we would be able to ask the workers there who are more familiar with their own products.

This was our third time fixing the tiles. We went to Super Ceramic in Puchong previously to buy tiles but the foreign workers there are only able to help us with the inventory stock checking and had no explanation for the products they sell. But one thing can't deny is there are a lot of customers in Super Ceramic who are looking for tiles too.

There are a few more well-known brands for tiles in the market. But we are not sure if their factory is open for retail service. Luckily Niro Granite HQ opens at the weekend. We went on Saturday morning and parked in front of the warehouse. The white building next to the warehouse is where the showroom is located. I recommend you take a look at the showroom first before landing in the warehouse if you have no idea what tiles to choose.

There are some tiles selling at the showroom unit at the normal rate.

Whereas the tiles at the warehouse are at a discounted price. The unusual size of 60*120cm tiles is selling at RM29/ piece. I could say the price is very cheap but it is not suitable for home users unless you stay in a bungalow.

If you have an office/shop to renovate, you could consider buying this piece of 60*120cm tiles.

There are 2 grades of porcelain tiles in the warehouse. The first grade is selling at RM9+/pc and the second grade is selling at RM4.50/pc. You can refer to the price tag for the grading.

You are not allowed to buy only 1 piece. The minimum selling unit is 1 box. We found out there are 4 pieces (60*60cm) in a box and some are packed in 8 pieces (30*60cm). So if you need 142 tiles, and 1 box contains 4 tiles, you have to take 36 boxes. First thing before you come, you must know your room size measurement and estimate the number of tiles you need.

After you selected the tiles, you have to ask the workers if they have enough stock. In our circumstances, we had to choose another tiles design that day when we were told that the tile we selected had not enough stock.

End up we chose this tile as the selection is limited.

For those home users, I would strongly suggest you use the first-grade tiles. Since first-grade tiles are guaranteed in terms of quality, the tiles are in excellent condition. The first-grade tile is offered at a wholesale price as they are trying to clear the stock and that is the last batch of the production line that the factory is not considering to produce it anymore.

While for second grade with half of the price of first-grade tiles, the tiles are in defective condition. One thing for sure is that the tiles are not cracked. There might be some colour differences and chipped tiles edges. Since they are selling per box, you could not open the box and choose the tiles. You could not come in for an exchange of the tiles for the said problems. For this reason, one has to buy more second-grade tiles. Therefore, I don't recommend it for home users especially if you need to put it indoors.

Niro Granite is offering 1 to 1 exchange for the cracked tiles within 3 days (if I'm not mistaken for the no of days). So, please check after you get the stock. They also offer free delivery for purchases over RM3k or else an RM100 surcharge for the delivery within Klang Valley. I would highly recommend taking their delivery service since the porcelain tiles are heavy, 1 box is roughly 96kg 😂 (1 piece is 24kg estimated for 60*60cm). We had the company delivered to our house on the day when our tile installers were about to start the work. Niro delivered them via a 3-tonne lorry. Nothing is broken and everything is in good shape.

In sum, we learn something here from some people:
  • Porcelain tiles are better (durable) than ceramic tiles
  • Never choose China tiles as easily popped off
  • China tiles have a greasy side (touch it) which made them not easily adhere to the cement
  • Matte tiles (anti-slippery function) are for wet areas like kitchen and toilet
