BOH Tea Plantation @ Cameron Highlands

BOH Tea Plantation is one of the tourist attractions in Cameron Highlands. It was founded in 1929 by J.A. Russel, a British businessman during the British colonial era in Malaya. Boh Tea Plantation has a total of 8000 acres planted with tea. The largest tea plantation in Southeast Asia.

The road journey to the BOH Tea Plantation is quite an adventure itself. Road is narrow and winding. Do give a honk or two while negotiating a corner to let oncoming traffic know there is a car coming. Gets kind of fun to honk the horn after a while!

Snapped on the way up to BOH

It was our lucky day spotted 2 foreign workers working at the tea garden collecting the tea leaves with the help of a machine. I zoomed from far, they were working at the steepy hillside. I was told once the tea bag was full, they would hung it at the rope and sent it down. The worker salary is based on the kilogram of the tea leaves collected that day. They even work on rainy day, as the tea leaves collected would be much heavier and they could earn more this way, told by the tourist guide.

Finally, we reached the BOH Tea House but the parking is limited. Thus, we parked at the downhill and walked a flight of staircase to the tea house.

To ensure the freshness of its tea products, BOH Plantations also set up a packaging factory near its main garden. BOH tea products are distributed both in domestic and international markets.

They are open for visitors for factory tour. The tour is FREE, but you've to wait for a guide (there are a few, no worries), and form a small crowd before you can embark on your 'tour'.

The Sg Palas Tea Centre is open everyday except Monday Closed, from 9:00am to 4:30pm. Factory tours are provided approximately every 30 minutes.

Visit to the tea centre, with an educational tour around the processing plant, detailing every process of tea making.

The tour is interesting, as you learn the 5 steps in tea processing, from sorting, drying, and so on.

No picture is allowed inside the factory. The only thing we can snap was the tea leaves undergone different processes from drying to rolling and fermentation.

It was bit crowded here on weekend. The queue to buy a cup of tea at BOH Tea House was long. I rather strolling around this area and enjoying the flora and fauna here.
