Changing my IC (MyKad) @ JPN Petaling Jaya

Since I moved to PJ, I have had to change the address on my identity card (IC). This will be easier later when I ask the bank to change the address for the hard copy of any statement and other official events. Well, I believe being a Selangorian is always better than being a KL-ian. It was my first time doing my IC in JPN PJ. It is not too far away from where I'm staying now. Even though most of the places in PJ are paid to park. JPN parking slot does not charge a cent. However, the parking slot for the public is limited.

Unfortunately, that's only JPN here. To do a passport, we have to go Imigresen centre or UTC. There are 3 divisions under JPN PJ.

Ground floor
Registration for birth, death, adoption
Registration for marriage and divorce

First floor
Identification card

JPN building was having a minor renovation and thus the lift was not functioning during my visit. There was a security guard at the entrance who asked us the purpose of coming there and gave us directions on which way we should go.

After climbing a flight of staircases, finally reached the JPN IC division. I lined up at Counter 1 to get my ticket number. A lady was seen on duty on that day. She checked through the documents I brought before giving me a ticket number. She also helped to answer many queries for every visitor who arrived at the counter.

I got my ticket number at 14.35pm.

At 3,52pm, finally, my number is called. I told the lady that I would like to change my IC address and she gave me this form to sign (details are printed from the PC). She asked me to give her proof that I am staying at the written address with an original document. Luckily, I brought a stack of bills including a water bill, an electricity bill and a medical bill that could help to prove my identity. One thing I did not know at that time was she was going to keep the original copy of the document that I brought. She told me if I need that particular document, I need to photocopy one to keep for myself while she kept the original copy. The water and electricity bills are not registered under my name and one of them is not correctly written the address of my current residence. The other bill also has the name (died) wrongly spelt. 😂This caused a bit of a hassle when negotiating with the officer.

Tips:
1. Bring recent water/electricity bills with your name or your husband's name or his family member's name (if stay with his family).
2. Make sure the address in the bill is correct and could be used to register for your IC address.
3. Make sure the name on the bill is correct (they can check your husband's grandmum's name in their system to see if tally with the bill).

At the counter, the officer would help to take a photo of your IC. It is advisable to dress in dark colour to give a contrast to your IC photo. If not, they could lend you a coat/blazer to wear. But I think it is better to bring your own blazer than use theirs since their blazer might be oversized and might not be clean. The table in front of the counter also clearly written the fine for lost IC replacement. It noticeably needs to report to the police for the second-time replacement of the lost IC.

After taking the IC photo, the officer would ask us to pay RM10 for the IC replacement. At that time, my old IC would be handed to her. Well, for those who have TouchnGo money in the IC, please ask the officer to print out a document with the old IC card serial number for us to claim back the money from the TouchnGo branch. It was 4pm when I finished taking the IC photo and waiting for my new IC.

At one corner, there was a display board showing the historical development (issuance) of the identity cards for temporary residents, permanent residents and Malaysian.

    1. Change IC could be done in same day for normal cases except if your thumb print could not be read that they need to find back the previous record.
