'Jom Jelajah Koperasi' Day 3 @ Penang

Schedule of the Day 3(第三天路程): Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad, Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

Okay, here comes my third day update of the recent trip to outskirt of Penang. Sorry to some of you who waited so long and some even kept asking me when is the next post to be publish. I'm very appreciate for all your support. And now enjoy the article ^^

Pillow fighting @ Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad

The next morning, we were asked to gather at the river. I got the agenda for the program but I absolutely did not know that 'pukul bantal' (pillow fighting) is playing at the pool. Moreover, I have been told that this is one of the Malay traditional game that commonly found in Malay village. Oh my gosh, this is my first time heard about it even though I stay here for more than 20 years!

Pillow fighting Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad

At the mid of the year when the weather is hot, the Malay kids at the village like to play water to cool the body. Eventually this game is created. The very first rule of the game is can't hit the opponent's head if not point will be deducted. Usually the adults will be the referee while the players are all kids. It can be played by both adults and kids. During the game, only 2 players are allowed sitting at the bamboo bridge facing each other.

Pillow fighting Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad

But since this program is organized purposely for us, therefore the players are all adults (players are all participants for this program). The crucial tip to win is to hit the opponent's waist to make him/her imbalance. But one can't overact by giving too powerful strike until losing own balance and drop into the water.

Example like this:

(hahahaha)

I know I'm bad, but I can't stop laughing at the last picture when my friend dropped into the water and another is sneering at her. And all these are captured in time by me :P

Duck Catching Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad

Coming next is duck catching...oh no all this is beyond my imagination. I thought we would go to a farm to catch duck but hey absolutely not like what I thought! Just after finish the pillow fighting, one of the villager took out all the ducks from the cage and tightly held at his hand before releasing into the pool.

Duck Catching Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad

As many of us not willing to go down the pool with various kind of excuses (hahaha young man you don't have menstruation right? :P), so the game opened to the kids at the village to join in the fun. (I paid respect to those heroes and heroins going down to the water) I can tell you that all these village kids are very brave and definitely a good swimmer! After the whistle blew, all of the participants swimming as fast as possible to chase the ducks released. Being an audience, it is really fun watching the game ^^

Duck Catching Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad

According to one of my friends, the duck catching activity is also another Malay traditional game that is still practiced in Malay village nowadays. Usually the game is played after harvesting season. The farmer will make his field like a pool so that the ground is wet, loose and easy to plant. They will let the ducks swimming around the pool, mating with each other and laying eggs. The lost ducks would be caught and eventually that is how the game developed.

Duck Catching Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad

One of the kids who manged to catch the duck. It looks like an easy job for them! Thumbs up for him!

paddy field @ Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad
Okay, here the event photographer...please don't do like him as the water he is bathing now is poisonous according to the villagers. The water looks clear but actually that is the drain where all the insecticide flows in.

paddy field @ Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad
It's indeed a nice scene and tempting to bath here but no way to take such a risk. LOL immediately he rushed to the shoplot using the pipe water to wash off the insecticide :P

grasshopper @ Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad
When heading back, I saw a giant grasshopper at the banana leaf! Kampung Chenaam is a very good place to hang around if you embrace nature. (but only one annoying thing during the stay is the mosquitoes)

Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad
I'm very appreciate for Mak Long who hosted our stay. It is indeed a very beautiful and spacious house! I would not forget the wonderful experience here!

Koperasi Homestay Sungai Chenaam Nibong Tebal Berhad
Last before we left the Kampung Chenaam, everyone of us was given some souvenirs by the local cooperative. This is our group photo, who stay a night at Mak Long house. The first left is Gael from thepinaysolobackpacker.com, one of the famous travel bloggers from Philippine. Visit her blog if you trying to find some related information regarding travel ^^

左边第一个是来自thepinaysolobackpacker.com 的Gael, 菲律宾著名的博客。

For the next station, we were heading to Pulau Aman (Aman Island) which located at Penang.

Pulau Aman is marked as the red dot in the map

Not many Malaysian know about this island as it is under reported in mainstream media as well as online sources until today. I knew it only few years back when I read about it from a blogger. So, this is one of the place I would like to pay a visit since then.

There is no other way to reach the island other than boat. To take the fast boat, one have to come to Pengkalan Cassia, Batu Kawan, a place very close to Penang second bridge. (it's not in the map yet)

The jetty name is called Pengkalan Jeti Batu Musang, different from the road name. LOL why make it different? That's the question in my mind...

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

That's not so much people even in the weekend. We came here on hot Saturday afternoon.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

The girl from Gaya Magazine who I have no idea of her name...aiyakk sorry ya ^^ (you must invite me for a few more events in future for me to remember you better LOL)

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

Finally we reached Pulau Aman.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

We were brought to a hall for short briefing about the island. I was quite surprised that there are only around 300 residents in this island, all are Malay. Most of them are fishermen. At the early day, there is Chinese inhabitant but all gone one by one, moving to the city for living.

From the flyer pasted at the glass window, it clearly stated the rate for a room stay at Pulau Aman. RM100 for a room of 2 persons, equipped with air-conditioner and TV. Whereas for dorm, the rate for a night is RM240 which can cater 12 persons at a time, for additional bed, it is charged at RM10 per pax.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

I heard Pulau Aman is a nice place for fishing. So if you like fishing at this island, make sure you bring along fishing rod here ^^

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

Within a stone's throw from the jetty, there is a floating seafood restaurant. To our surprise, it was full house that day. Therefore, we had to switch to another place to have our lunch. (it was little bit disappointed)

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

Others were walking far in front of me, perhaps they were very hungry after the game...LOL But I prefer to take a slow walk along the beach...cause I thought we supposed come here to relax and enjoy (I can only do this when person in charge not walking behind me hahaha...as he will only urges me to walk faster :P)

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

One interesting thing at this island is that there is no car! One can totally enjoy the fresh air over here during the stay!

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

There is cottage industry doing Kuih Kapit (Sweet flimsy crispy cookies) when we passing by. Chinese have Kuih Kapit too but we normally make it during Chinese New Year.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

They are selling tapioca chips as well.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

We proceeded to Warung Kak Timah for lunch.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

There are a lot of Sukun (breadfruit) trees at Pulau Aman. Almost one Sukun tree planted at each household. Besides, Pulau Aman is known for having the oldest Sukun tree (since year 1891) in Malaysia. Sorry to say I miss it and hopefully you all manage to find it if you come here for holiday.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

Okay, this was what I have for lunch. A big bowl of prawn noodles ^^ It was spicy for me as my tolerance level for spiciness is not high....so in the end, I'm the last one to finish the meal ><"

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

After the lunch, we were rushed to go for belacan (shrimp paste) factory.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

It looks like a brick..edible brick

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

It can't be bought anywhere else. So if you like belacan, buy one the local homemade belacan.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

Next, we were brought to the bay.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

Hmm...I was only given a couple of minutes to enjoy the scenery and taking a photo at this place before we left. I have to say it might be a nice place to take prewedding photo here xo

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

Lots of chalet available for rental in this island.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

And finally that's the full stop for my Pulau Aman trip.  Well, that's certainly just a small part of interesting places in Pulau Aman I able to cover. I believe there is more fun if given enough time to explore the whole island. So I will wait for my next trip to pay a visit at Telaga Emas (Golden Well) which we did not go this time.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

Before I was called again to board on the boat, I was able to capture this picture in time at the jetty ^^

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

The left one is the boat that carrying passengers, but I'm not too sure if the right one is fishing boat.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

I thought we were heading back to the jetty but no.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

We took the boat touring the island.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

I really enjoy siting in the boat but not during strong wave. Kinda scary for me as I don't know how to swim. But freaking weird was that I was the only one who wore safety jacket in the boat...(so I have to assume that all of them are good swimmers)

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

The spindrift from the engine

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

Another boat

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

We saw some people fishing at the sea.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

The words at the hill mean "Welcome to P. Aman". Pulau Aman is not a commercialized island, there is still large piece of jungle remaining. The houses are all simple and not beautified like in other island.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

Then we reached a fish farm. Sorry I have no idea what they are looking at ><

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

This was not my first time visit to a fish farm. But still excited to look around. Not forgetting to walk cautiously as I don't know how to swim LOL

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

Apart from edible fish, there is jelly fish as well. Moral of the story is don't simply jump into the water without knowing what inside...hahaha (yeah I'm saying you who still owe me lots picture)

Dolphin @ Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

Apart from fish farm, another surprise is that we saw dolphin here ^^ OMG! everyone at the boat is thrilled and busy taking a picture of it...okay yah we rarely seen dolphins...but now we no need to travel to Philippine that far just to take a glimpse of the dolphin. They are not only one but a few of them.

Koperasi Seri Aman Pulau Pinang Berhad

So if you are first timer who want to visit Pulau Aman, take note with the boat schedule to plan your trip wisely.

One of the must do list in my mind before coming is to take a picture of the magnificent Penang second bridge (Jambatan Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah) which just newly opened! It is much longer than the first bridge, longest in Malaysia and Southeast Asia!

Cititel Hotel

The last night of the trip, we stayed at Cititel Hotel. It is a cosy hotel for sure.

Cititel Hotel

I was arranged to sleep alone in a room with twin beds. (may be because I'm the only Chinese girl in the trip) I was happy with that but not during night time. LOL (heard weird sound...may be just my hallucination)

The TV, fridge, mirror....hmm connecting door to the next room. Luckily there is other participants occupy the next room if not it might sounds scary when you heard someone knocked at the door in the late night!(okay...I'm gone beyond imagination this time by watching too much of movie??? xo)

For the last night, everything is free and easy. I was clueless and followed a friend, Izzati to Gurney Plaza for dinner in the end. (long story....F asked me to come down at 7pm, Y asked me to meet him at lobby at 7.30pm, so I come down at 7.15pm, which I thought we were supposed to dine together....somehow by the time I went down to lobby, F already gone to Batu Feringgi (cool romantic seaside) with 2 girls...LOL..then Y who supposed meet me at 7.30pm not even come down yet...at the lobby I met Izzati, and her Penang friend came to fetch her to dine outside, (Y not here yet, but Izzati's friend car already reach) without thinking too much I followed her friend's car. (LOL this is so complicated...Y told me he did ask Izzati to dine together...so I thought follow Izzati should not be wrong...which eventually I will meet Y later...but no..).hahaha sorry for my blurriness...at 9.20pm M asked me for dinner....and I just felt so sorry cause I already took my dinner) A confusing night.

My second time being here. Lots of food stall selling all kinds of food that really makes one hard to choose...and so coincidentally I met 2 guys here. (who joined the trip) One of them was crave for pork crazily since the meals for these trips were all halal. And they told me they took bus all the way from the hotel. Well, they were very smart to know what bus to take to come here. Guess what they are not even local. Thumbs up to the Filipino and Singaporean!

Haha I have no idea what I ordered already...laksa?? It costed me RM4 for just a small bowl of it.

Coconut juice...hmm quite expensive here costed me RM4 whereas I can get at RM2/3 at KL....

Okay, that's the end of my story for day 3. See you again! Do me a favor reading from the start till the end and give me your feedback. Thank you!

Happy Wesak Day & Happy Holiday to all who celebrate today!
